Middle and High School students at PPC have a strong, active youth program. Fun, faithful, and experienced adult advisors join 6th through 12th grade young people on their faith journeys on Sunday morning and evenings, throughout the week and throughout the year!
Middle School Sunday School (6th-8th graders), CLC Room #201
Leaders: Beverly Davis, Larry Bramble, Tom Kutz
The goal of Middle School Sunday School is to learn more about biblical teachings and our roles as followers of Christ in the pre-teen/teenage world. Ways we do this are and are not limited to:
- Lectionary-based lessons: We take one reading from the current week and, through discussion, art, and other activities, discover how it applies to our own lives as middle schoolers.
- Advent and Lent art projects: We collaboratively create works of art throughout the season, which we share with the congregation.
- Film studies: For 3-4 weeks, we watch a movie from pop culture and explore the biblical connections. Past films include Evan Almighty, E.T., Narnia – to name a few.
- Ways to pray: We spend a few weeks discovering different spiritual practices and ways to pray. These have included prayer stations and the creation of a prayer wall in the CLC .
High School Sunday School (10th-12th graders, 9th graders not in Confirmation),
CLC Room #206
Leaders: Lori Dawson, James Hill and Dale Mace
This class is using the “Feasting on the Word” curriculum.
High school students will follow the lectionary using the Feasting on the Word curriculum. Through worship, Sunday School and youth group, our high school students will have a cohesive understanding of the lectionary scriptures.
Confirmation, CLC Room #124
Leader: Laura Arthur
In some traditions, being confirmed is the main step toward becoming and ‘official’ member of the worship community (we do that). In others, you need to be confirmed in order to take communion or marry (we do not do that). One of the special, rather unique things about Presbyterians is that we believe Confirmation is a youth’s chance to confirm his or her own baptism. God has loved your child forever; you may have made vows for your child as an infant; now is your son’s or daughter’s turn to claim God as his or her own God! Confirmation will help your youth understand what that means and give him/her the tools and inspiration to express his/her personal faith.
PPC 8th and 9th graders participate in a year-long Confirmation class that meets on Sunday mornings during the Christian Education hour. In addition to these classes, the year includes visiting to other faith communities, interviewing an adult member of the church, and writing a personal statement of faith.
FIRST SUNDAY LUNCH
All high schoolers are invited to meet on the first Sunday of the month for food, prayer and fellowship during the church school year with a break in the summer. Join us September through May.
Youth and friends are invited to come for games, dinner, music, conversation and fun most Sunday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the CLC gym. Pretty much any way that we can invite God into our hearts and minds, you’ll find it at Youth Group!
