Prayers of the People by Lynnette Sisson

HEAVENLY FATHER WE THANK YOU FOR KNOWING US SO DEEPLY.  FOR KNOWING OUR NAMES, OUR TIMES OF JOY AND TIMES OF SORROW.  YOUR WISDOM ASTOUNDS US AS WE FIGHT FOR CONTROL FORGETTING THAT YOU ARE WRITING OUR STORIES AND WE ARE LIVING THEM.

WE ARE IN AWE OF YOUR IMAGINATION AS WE LOOK AROUND US THIS SPRING AND ABSORB THE BEAUTY OF BLUE SKIES, GENTLE RAINS, AND ABUNDANT BLOSSOMS.  WE ARE AMAZED AT YOUR CREATIVITY AS WE PONDER THE VARIETY OF PEOPLE YOU HAVE CREATED IN YOUR WORLD. HELP US TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AND RESPECT YOUR CREATION.

O LORD, CENTER US AS WE GO ABOUT OUR DAILY LIVES.  HELP US TO TAKE THAT NECESSARY MOMENT EACH MORNING TO CONNECT WITH YOU BEFORE THE CRAZINESS OF LIFE BEGINS.  HELP US TO MAKE YOUR GRACE BE THAT CUP OF MORNING COFFEE AS WE BEGIN EACH DAY.

LORD, WE HAVE A HURTING WORLD.  THERE IS CONFLICT, PAIN AND ANGER ALL AROUND US.  OUR HUMAN AND POLITICAL DISCOURSE HAS REACHED UNIMAGINABLE LOWS THAT WE KNOW ARE NOT PART OF YOUR HOPE FOR US.

HELP US TO UNDERSTAND THOSE WITH WHOM WE DISAGREE.  HELP US TO CELEBRATE OUR DIFFERENCES AND EMBRACE THE CHANGE WE NEED TO LIVE BY YOUR KINDNESS, GRACE AND ACCEPTANCE OF ALL PEOPLE.

BE WITH THOSE IN NEED AND GUIDE US TO THEM.  WE ARE SURROUNDED AND BLESSED WITH  ABUNDANCE AT PROVIDENCE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND HAVE CAPABILITIES TO STRETCH TO GREATER LENGTHS IN YOUR SERVICE.  HELP US THINK OF NEW WAYS TO SERVE YOUR PEOPLE- KNOWING EVERYONE IS YOURS, EVEN THOSE WHO LOOK, FEEL OR WORSHIP DIFFERENTLY THAN WE DO. BE WITH OUR CONGREGATION AS WE STRIVE TO BE FAITHFUL TO YOUR CALL.

BE WITH THOSE WHO ARE ILL OR WHO ARE HURTING.   SURROUND THEM WITH YOUR PEACE.  FILL THIS SANCTUARY WITH YOUR HOLY PRESENCE  SO WE CAN EACH FEEL WARM IN THE LIGHT OF YOUR EVER PRESENT LOVE. COMFORT THOSE IN BRUSSELS WHO ARE MOURNING THE LOSS OF LOVED ONES AND FRIENDS, BE WITH THOSE WHO ARE ESCAPING TYRANNY AND ABUSE, COMFORT THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND FEAR.

FILL  THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO STILL FEEL REJECTED BY THE CHURCH AND ARE UNABLE TO FEEL YOUR WELCOME. GRANT US THE POWER TO OPEN OUR DOORS AND OPEN OUR MINDS TO ALL WHO SEEK YOUR WORD.

GIVE US THE PATIENCE AND INTEGRITY THAT COMES FROM KNOWING YOU AND BEING KNOWN BY YOU. HELP US TO EMBRACE AND TRUST THE LOVE WE RECEIVE FREELY FROM YOU EACH DAY. AMEN.
