Geneses 1:1-5; Psalm 29; Acts 19:1-7; Mark 1:4-11

Litany for the Baptism of the Lord and the Lord’s Prayer

One:   O Christ, by your epiphany your light shines upon us,

giving us the fullness of salvation.

All:   Help us show your light to all we meet.  Lord, have mercy.

One:   O Christ of glory, you humbled yourself to be baptized,

showing us the way of humility.

All:   Strengthen us to serve you in humility all the days of our lives. Lord, have mercy.

One:   O Christ, by your baptism you cleansed us from our sin, making us children of your Father.

All:   Give us the grace of being a child of God to all who seek you. Lord, have mercy.

One:   O Christ, by your baptism you sanctified creation and opened the door of repentance to all.

All:   Make us servants of your gospel in the world. Lord, have mercy.

One:   O Christ, by your baptism you revealed to us the glorious Trinity when the voice from heaven

proclaimed, ‘This is my beloved Son,’ and the Holy Spirit descended upon you like a dove.

All:   Claimed by your love, send us forth in the power of your Spirit to live to the praise

            of your glory.

One:   O Christ, keep us faithful in your service and prayerful for your world. Grant to the leaders of                       nations wisdom, insight and the will to work for peace. Grant to your church: confidence in your                 faithfulness, power to witness, compassion to care, grace to extend and peace to share.

All:   Give us power to do your work, to show your love, and to live holy and joyful lives,

One:   all in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord, who taught us to pray:

All:   “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will                be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us                our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us              from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.”

One:   And now, since God has been so gracious and generous with us, let us be generous in our service

and help and giving. May God bless all the gifts we give, to the praise of Christ’s glory. Amen.
