Prayers of the People by Beverly Howard

God of grace, we ask for your blessings today.    Sometimes we are overwhelmed with the world we live in.  And we know that the only peace we will find comes from you.  We ask you to be with the political leaders of this troubled world.  Open their hearts and fill them with wisdom so that we may all live as sisters and brothers.  We ask your blessing on the leaders of our country, give them a willingness to work together for the good of all.  Bless Walt, Joanna and Lal as they lead this congregation with energy, patience and love.

We ask your blessings on those who are suffering in body or mind this day.  Be especially close to those who are grieving or alone. Give them relief from pain and sure knowledge of your constant love and presence in their lives.

And Lord we especially ask your blessing on those who suffer from hunger or homelessness here and around the world.  Give us wisdom and generous hearts that our priorities may reflect your love for all your children.

We ask these things in the name of Jesus who taught us to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.
