Parish the Thought: Exodus 16
“In the evening you shall know that it was the lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord…” Exodus 16
Reminds me of the prayer by an elderly and poor African-American woman.
In the evening she would pray:
“O thank you Father, you’ve brought me through
I wouldn’t have made it, were it not for you.
The work is hard, and the pleasures few.
But thank you Father, you brought me through.”
And in the morning she would say,
“Oh my eyes have risen to another sun,
yet another glorious day’s begun.
Thank you Father that through the night,
you kept me safe from Satan’s might.
This glorious day is your’s, my Lord;
now lead me through to heaven’s reward.”
