For 9 years he has been taking mission trips to Chimbote, Peru; he has recruited many of you to go on these mission trips; he plans, organizes, makes arrangements for these mission trips; and he is in almost constant touch with the “Friends of Chimbote” who help resource the mission. Recently, the “Friends of Chimbote” have welcomed five new Board Members one of which is our very own DAN KUNKLEMAN! You can read more about it on below. Congrats Dan!
And, never missing an opportunity to let folks know they are welcome on the next Chimbote Mission Trip, Dan says: The dates are 1/20 -26/2019. Most folks will normally arrive 2-3 days ahead and return on the Saturday night we return to Lima, this year the 26th. There is room for more to join. The requested donation amount per person is $600 – $700 as you are comfortable paying. This pays room and board for six nights at the mission; building materials; Peru bus travel; and the other various costs of the work we as a group will be doing. There is also the possibility of scholarship money to offset this cost for a few who may have the desire, but not the finances. You would be responsible for your airfare cost. Please contact Dan Kunkleman firstname.lastname@example.org or 704-617-0857
We are hiring a full-time Development Associate for our U.S. staff. The main responsibilities of this position include:
1. Donor relations – Donor correspondence and relationship building including the gratitude program, database updates, etc.

3. Marketing assistance – participate in creating marketing materials such as newsletters, brochures, donor emails and event signage; social media monitoring and posting; event planning and coordination, website updates; and other general administrative duties as necessary.
This person must have a compassionate heart, giving spirit and excellent communication skills. The unique benefits of this position include a flexible work environment, experiencing Peruvian culture and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the poor of Chimbote, Peru and worldwide benefactors. This will be a full-time, salaried position. For more information, please contact Todd at ToddM@FriendsOfChimbote.org.
Welcome to our 5 New Board Members
We’d like to extend a very special welcome to our five new board members. We’re in the process of updating our website with their photos and bios, but for now here’s a sneak peek into the areas of expertise these wonderful additions will bring to our organization:
Brian Berg – Fargo, ND
Brian first became connected to Chimbote when he traveled with a group from Oak Grove High School. With 27 years as an architect, Brian is excited to work on sustainable and modular home construction options, and developing the carpentry program.
Kelli Kester – Minneapolis, MN
Kelli developed a sincere love for the people of Chimbote when she visited after graduation from high school. She has served as a pastoral minister in her church and is interested in social justice and faith-based programming.
Dan Kunkleman – Charlotte, NC
Dan has been to Chimbote nine times. In addition to trips with his family, he has also coordinated annual trips for his church. Dan will be a fantastic resource for helping develop our mission visit program.
Dan Mahli – Fargo, ND
Dan’s parents were missionaries in Peru so he has been raised in an environment of service. His professional experience as a community development administrator will be a valuable asset as we continue to grow and evolve structurally and as an organization.
Linda Zespy – Minneapolis, MN
Linda’s Dad, Gary, has been involved with Friends of Chimbote since its creation. Linda brings expertise in writing, marketing and fundraising, as well as a passion for hospice care.
Muchas Gracias Al, Earl, Jack & Wayne
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Al Woodward, Earl Milbrath, Jack Galleger and Wayne Sanders for all your years of service on our board of directors. Although they are moving off the board, we are grateful they are all still involved in our mission work in other ways.
Congrats to Kim!
Kim Malakowsky will be relocating to the Minneapolis area in August to be closer to her new granddaughter who has just arrived. Kim will continue to share her design and marketing skills with us on a part-time/special projects basis, but her day-to-day responsibilities will be assumed by the new Development Associate we’re hiring.
Kim has truly put her heart and soul into this Mission and we are so grateful for her passion,
creativity, professionalism, friendship and hard work for the past 7 years. We are fortunate
that she will work with us not only through this transition but also as we move forward.
